I woke up at 6am everyday for 3 months, here's how its changed my life

I grew up playing sports and during law school I used to wake up before sunrise and take a cold shower to start my day. Routines are meant to change as life happens and I’ve learnt that’s okay. Being “boring” and repetitive helps with becoming 1% better.

Lately, life changed a lot. I felt like I had no control. Something a lot of people my age feel given the world today. So naturally, I defer back to what I know best and thats sports. I started working out first thing in the morning. No days off. It was hard. There are days you are sore, days you don’t feel like pushing yourself, its a mental challenge to show up and push yourself each day, even if its just 1% better than yesterday.

Month two I reconnected with my boxing coach. Sparring against a former Olympian is a different type of mental battle.

Third, a new addition. The infamous cold plunges. I credit this one to watching a lot of Sahil Bloom (thanks Rabia!) & Jesse Itzler. When you tell yourself to do hard things, things you don’t know you’re capable of, you have a new found confidence within your mind and body. There’s a lot of research on cold plunges/cold showers you can find online so I won’t bore you, but the one about an adrenaline rush, mental clarity and a sense of accomplishment that anything is possible, yea thats true. When you feel the pinch of the cold hit your toes, fingers and breathing, it’s a mental battle to see if you can go beyond your time goal.

Naturally, these were boosts of self confidence and a reminder to put the reps in. The results won’t appear overnight but they will later.

I didn’t expect these to spill into my professional & personal life but the trickle down effect its had is one I would have never imagined in my wildest dreams. More on that for another time.
